ISCSP

ISCSP, the Institute for Social and Political Sciences of Universidade de Lisboa, was founded in 1906. 116 years later, the Institute caters for the needs of a bustling 21st century student and researcher population, placing a lot of its efforts on international cooperation in the Portuguese speaking world, but with close attention to global challenges.

Our School is home to a student body of 4 500, 30 percent of whom attend post graduate studies. Last official figures, from 2020, indicated they proceeded from 37 different countries, and our aim is to provide them with best quality education in Portuguese on Social and Political Sciences. Education, research, services to the community, dissemination, i.e., all our activities are carried out in Lisbon and in other worldwide locations, with different international partners.

Studies leading to the completion of Master’s Degrees and PhD programs are developed within the scientific lines of ISCSP Research Centers: Centre for Public Policy and Administration (CAPP), Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Studies (CIEG), Institute of Orient (IO). CAPP and CIEG’s last assessments by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, the Portuguese official research accreditation and assessment agency, recognized them as Excellent, while the Institute of the Orient was awarded a Very Good. In-house and external researchers contribute to important outputs, indexed publications, as well as nationally and internationally funded research projects.

ISCSP welcomes the EGPA 2022 conference, Public Administration for the Sustainable Future of our Societies, to our beautiful city, and is looking forward to welcoming all participants to our Monsanto Campus, overlooking the River Tagus from the Monsanto Park.

The Centre for Public Administration and Public Policies (CAPP) is a research unit dedicated to research, consultancy, and scientific advanced training. It was founded in 2001 at the Institute of Social and Political Sciences (ISCSP), University of Lisbon – the largest University in Portugal, classified in 78th place (Q1) in the overall Western Europe ranking on the Scimago Institutions Rankings[1], and in 56th place (Q1) among the research institutions, by this same ranking.

As a research centre classified by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia as "Excelent", we value the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge as an investment in the future and essential for conscious and participatory citizenship, as well as for social and economic development. Scientific knowledge must be made "for" as much as "with" society, thus allowing us to face new challenges through informed public policies.

The multidisciplinary nature of the research conducted at CAPP combines the expertise of more than 170 researchers, including senior staff, young Ph.D. researchers, and students.
